Tablature

How to do it

  1. Play the five shapes following the TAB, low to high: C shape (open), A shape (barre at 3), G shape, E shape (barre at 8) and D shape.
  2. They are all C major (C-E-G): check that the same three notes sound in every shape.
  3. Locate the root (C) inside each shape: it is the key to moving the system into any key.

Variations

  • Move the whole system to G or D: the five shapes shift together to the new root.

Tips

  • The five shapes chain with no gaps: the end of one is the start of the next.
