Melodic dictation

Recognise motifs.

1. Step 1Listen to the fragment and identify the motif: the short idea of a few notes that repeats.
2. Step 2Notice whether the motif comes back varied (transposed or inverted) and how the shape changes.
3. Step 3Reconstruct it note by note and confirm its contour (rising, falling, leaping).
4. Step 4Repeat with new motifs until you recognise them confidently.
