Degree dictation — basic

Short melodic dictation in C major: listen to the melody and write its notes and degrees.

1. Step 1Listen to the two-bar melody keeping the tonic (C) always as the reference of rest.
2. Step 2Write down each note you hear and identify its degree (1-7) relative to the tonic.
3. Step 3Lean on the leading tone (7): its semitone toward the tonic helps you place it.
4. Step 4Confirm your answer and repeat until you transcribe the degrees confidently.
