Degree dictation — intermediate

Melodic dictation in C major with leaps: recognise and write the degrees of the melody.

1. Step 1Listen to the two-bar melody: now there is more movement and the odd leap between degrees.
2. Step 2Transcribe the notes and name each degree (1-7) relative to the tonic, not by its absolute name.
3. Step 3Use the stable degrees (1, 3, 5) as anchor points to place the rest.
4. Step 4Confirm your answer and repeat until you recognise the degrees fluently.
