Identify diminished chords

1. Step 1Listen to the chord that sounds and decide whether it is a diminished seventh (dim7).
2. Step 2Remember that the diminished 7th divides the octave into equal parts: that is why it sounds symmetric and ambiguous.
3. Step 3Think how this same sonority can be respelled enharmonically to resolve into different keys.
4. Step 4Confirm your answer and repeat to get used to the pivot sound of enharmonic modulation.
