Hear the passing tones

Melodic dictation and chord trainer in context.

1. Step 1Listen to the phrase and locate the stable notes that fall on the strong beats (the chord tones).
2. Step 2Notice the notes that connect them by step on weak beats: these are the passing-tone candidates.
3. Step 3Check that each passing tone comes from a chord tone and resolves at once into another, in a single direction.
4. Step 4Transcribe the line and repeat until you tell passing tones apart from chord tones by ear.
