Hear the neighbour tones

Recognise the neighbour tones in context.

1. Step 1A two-bar micro-phrase over a stable chord will play.
2. Step 2Notice the notes that step out of a note and return to it immediately: those are the neighbours.
3. Step 3Decide whether each neighbour is upper (a step up) or lower (a step down).
4. Step 4Replay the phrase and check that the arrival note is the same as the departure note.
