Identify seventh chords

Advanced progressions, dictation and analysis exercises.

1. Step 1A seventh chord (7, maj7 or m7) will sound; listen to it whole.
2. Step 2Locate the third and the seventh, the notes that define the chord’s tendency and resolution.
3. Step 3Choose the correct quality and note which note would be the leading tone or seventh wanting to resolve.
4. Step 4Repeat until you reliably identify sevenths within a progression.
